Karting at F1 on May 3

Post  red61 on Sun Apr 26, 2009 10:04 pm

As announced at the autocross, the next club meeting will be held Sunday, May 3rd at noon in Milton, followed by karting at F1 Boston in Braintree -- probably at 2:00 pm. You don’t have to attend the meeting to go karting, and vise-versa, but all members are welcome to attend the meeting.

If we have enough participants committed to doing the karting event, we can reserve track time for a "Mini Grand Prix," which consists of three qualifying races and a final race (starting order determined by the finishing order in the qulaifying heats. The cost is $80 per person, which includes the 4 races, "racing license" for the day and instruction/briefing beforehand. The whole thing should start at 2:00 and last until about 3:30 pm.

We are trying to figure out how many will be attending and whether to reserve track time or do an “arrive and drive.” If we reserve track time, we need to give them the drivers' names in advance. If you know that you would like to participate and/or attend the meeting, please e-mail Denis ASAP at denis@renegademiata.net and include the following information:

___ I am planning on attending the F1 karting event
___ I am planning on attending the Renegade Club meeting. Please send me directions.
___ I am interested in attending the F1 karting event, but can't commit at this time

I'll send the directions and details to those who contact me. Thanks! -Denis

As of today, we only have 5 people signed up, short of the 8 needed to schedule a mini grand prix. My son is making some calls to see if he can round up a few friends to bring the number up to 8, otherwise we will do an "arrive and drive" and be on track with others not from Renegade. Still planning on 2:00 pm on Sunday, but will know more by tomorrow and will post the info as soon as I know.

Thanks. We'll be heading to F1 at 2:00 after the club meetingI think we'll have to do the arrive and drive at this point. I called this afternoon and the didn't have any events booked for 2:00 so we should be OK but it's first come first served for track time. The races are $28 each and you have to buy a license for the day for $10.

Despite a small turnout, we had a great time at F1. It was my first time buit they have a nice faciltity -- they had three race cars on display, a restaurant and gift shop. It was quite a workout too, especially the 35 lap race. Congrats to Rik Bustin who won all three races. cheers

If club members are intersted in doing this event again next year but have suggestions as to how to get a better turnout, please let me know. -Denis
